HYDERABAD: A major power breakdown hit eight districts on Saturday evening after a power transformer at 500kV grid station of the National Transmission and Despatch Company developed a fault in Jamshoro.

A spokesman for Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) said the fault in power transformer-2 had paralyzed eight districts of Hesco region at 5.17pm.

He told Dawn over phone that one of the three power transformers at the grid station was already affected. Now the transformer-2 was hit by a fault while the transformer-3 was providing electric supply to K-Electric.

“Few districts were provided electricity from Dadu-Moro line which gets power supply from 500kV grid station in Dadu,” he said. This line, he said, crosses Indus river to reach Moro from Dadu district and then travels further.

He said that Umerkot, Mirpurkhas and Matiari were fed through this source of electricity while other districts including Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Mohammad Khan, Badin, Sujawal and Jamshoro were still affected. The power supply was finally began to be restored around 9.30pm.
