LAHORE: The great–great-granddaughter of Sir Ganga Ram, Kesha Ram Hinsdale, an American politician and activist, is expected to arrive here on a weeklong visit on the invitation of the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).

Sir Ganga Ram, a distinguished engineer and a philanthropist, is considered the father of modern Lahore for his huge contributions to the urban fabric of Lahore in the form of many landmark buildings that are treasures of architecture.

Ms Hinsdale serves as a member of the Vermont Senate in the US. She has served in the Vermont House of Representatives from 2009 to 2016.

Osman Khalid Waheed, the chief executive officer of Ferozsons Laboratories and a trustee of LUMS, told Dawn that Ms Hinsdale would arrive in Lahore on Saturday (today) with her spouse, John Hinsdale, and have dinner with the doctors of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital at the Lahore Fort. She is scheduled to visit Samadhi of Sir Ganga Ram and the Walled City with the Lahore Sangat. She is also likely to meet the Lahore Bar Association office-bearers and have lunch with the American Business Forum. She would also visit the Ganga Ram Power Station in Renala Khurd, the National College of Arts and the Lahore Museum besides having a talk with senior school students of Aitchison College. Besides installing a plaque at the Ganga Ram’s family residence along with Lok Sangat, the dignitary would also attend a panel discussion at LUMS and a dinner at Model Town.

Mr Waheed added that there would be an event at Alhamra on the legacy of Sir Ganga Ram where Ms Hinsdale would feature in a discussion with FS Aijazuddin.
