KOHAT: The police on Friday imposed fines on drivers of rickshaws and vans picking and dropping schoolgirls for playing laud music.

DSP Azmat Bangash led the operation launched on the complaints of female students.

During the action, traffic wardens also removed musical instruments from the vehicles. They also seized motorcycles driven by underage drivers.

Traffic police in-charge Rauf Khan told Dawn that the operation was launched to curb immoral activities.

SHOPS SEALED: Additional assistant commissioner Saad Munir and drug inspector Irfan Wazir sealed three medical stores and clinics run by quacks in Gumbat and Parshai areas of Kohat on Friday. They also confiscated expired medicines and intoxicating substances.

OPEN KUTCHERY: The residents complained about poor performance of revenue staff at an open kutchery called by additional assistant commissioner, revenue, Hangu, Amanullah on Friday.

The complaints were mostly about delay in transfer of collective properties in names of individuals, issuance of ownerships, and absence of staff in their offices.

They also demanded that the revenue record should be computerised. The official addressed some complaints on the spot and directed the departments concerned and tehsildars to address other issues immediately.

‘SMEAR CAMPAIGN’: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MPA Ziaullah Bangash has castigated some elements in the party for ‘running’ a smear campaign against him to damage his reputation. Speaking at a meeting held on Friday, he said PTI was an ideological party and alleged that some elements were trying to harm it.

Mr Bangash, who is also chairman of the district development advisory committee, said if the party did not give him the ticket for next elections he would not contest elections as an independent against the party nominee. He said he was perturbed by reports that he was selling jobs, and insisted jobs were advertised and applicants were selected on merit.
