SUKKUR: Yet another body was found stuck in a gate of the Sukkur Barrage on Sunday, raising the number of such bodies retrieved from the gates over the last five months to 36. None of them could be identified as yet.

Officials of the barrage administration said they noticed the body of a youth stuck in the gate No. 2 on Sunday and called out the police to retrieve it.

Personnel from the nearby Launch Morr check-post arrived about four hours after they were called, the officials said, adding that the body was retrieved and taken to the Edhi Foundation centre in Sukkur.

The welfare organisation’s volunteers buried the body after a post-mortem examination, performed at the Sukkur Civil Hospital, as no one turned up to claim it.

The police believed that the body seemed to be one-day-old. They said none of the 36 bodies retrieved from the gates of the barrage could be identified till date. Nine of them were of women, they added.
