MUNICH: Bayern Munich demolished visitors Mainz 05 6-2 on Saturday, with Sadio Mane scoring once and setting up two more goals, to take over the lead in the Bundesliga.
Germany international Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala and Leon Goretzka were also on target for Bayern along with substitute Mathys Tel and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
Mainz cut the deficit twice, with goals from Silvan Widmer and Marcus Ingvartsen.
In the late game, Jude Bellingham scored a crucial goal to send Borussia Dortmund to third with a 2-1 win at Eintracht Frankfurt.
Dortmund’s Julian Brandt opened the scoring for the visitors in the 21st minute.
Japnese International Daichi Kamda scored the equaliser for Mainz but the visitors reclaimed the lead in the 52nd minute when Bellingham struck past Kevin Trapp.
Elsewhere, RB Leipzig lifted themselves up to within touching distance of the top four with a 2-0 win at home against Bayer Leverkusen thanks to goals from Christopher Nkunku and Timo Werner.
Wolfsburg thrashed a hapless Bochum 4-0 at home, in the Wolves’ most dominant performance.
On Saturday, Stuttgart lifted themselves out of the bottom three with a 2-1 victory against Augsburg, thanks to an injury time winner from Waldemar Anton.
