Yasir Hussain calls out local TV shows for not paying tribute to Umer Sharif and Amanullah

The actor drew comparisons between Kapil Sharma's homage to Raju Srivastava and our lack of the same for our own late comedians.

Indian comedian Raju Srivastava passed away a month ago on September 21 and the entire Bollywood industry has been paying tribute to the late comedian-cum-actor, including fellow comedian Kapil Sharma, who, after a short hiatus, has returned to the TV screens with The Kapil Sharma Show. Yasir Hussain wants Pakistanis to do the same for our own late comedy legends Umer Sharif and Amanullah.

On Monday, the Badshah Begum actor took to his Instagram stories and shared a photo of the Indian comedian on a digital board from the comedy show and wrote, “The Kapil Sharma Show is paying tribute to Raju Srivastava and here no one does anything on TV for Umer Shareef and Amaan Ullah.”

He questioned if we “lack common sense or either don’t respect seniors enough,” and then clarified he was asking himself this question, not his followers.

This weekend, a special episode of The Kapil Sharma Show will feature a number of comedians who will pay tribute to Srivastava, according to Jayvijay Sachan who shared photos from the upcoming episode.

Comedian Sharif passed away in 2021 at the age of 66 after a long and public battle with serious health problems. Amanullah passed away in 2020 at the age of 70 at a private hospital in Lahore after his health deteriorated.

Yasir is right. Umer Sharif was a legend for Pakistan. Renounced world over for his wit. He entertained us for decades. His versatility and instant comedy was unmatched. It's tragic Pakistan is losing talent, yet no one recognizes it. No one remembers or pays tribute. Jab tak khursi ( power of hot seat) par hai, a person is remembered.
