KASUR: A police official was shot at and injured when he signalled two motorcycle-riding gunmen to stop at a toll booth on Ferozepur Road in the jurisdiction of the Mustafabad police late on Sunday.

The police had picketed the spot for a random stop and search activity.

According to the first information report under sections 324, 355, 186, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, at 1:05am, the two suspects were signalled to stop at the picket, but one of them opened fire at the police, leaving cop Muhammad Islam injured.

He was rushed to the Kasur District Headquarters Hospital where he is stated to be stable.

The suspects fled the scene. The case is being investigated. Separately, robbers deprived a Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) leader of cash and a mobile phone near Kacha Paka village on Monday in the limits of Khidian police.

The gunmen fired at the car of TLP leader Muhammad Yousaf Sialvi forcing the driver to pull over. The robbers snatched cash and phone from them and escaped.

The police are looking into the matter. Also, robbers deprived Muhammad Sulman of Rs200,000 at gunpoint and fled.
