KOHAT: A three-day sports and cultural festival concluded in Orakzai with the display of traditional cuisine and daily-use items here on Friday.

Orakzai Scouts organised the festival.

According to a statement issued here, the event was held at the Kalaya Sports Complex.

Kohat division commissioner Javed Marwat was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony.

Commandant Orakzai Scouts Colonel Tasneem, deputy commissioner Adnan Fareed, district police officer Nisar Ahmed Khan, youth, children and tribal elders were also in attendance.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Marwat said peace and development were interlinked and such events were proof that complete tranquility had returned to the region.

He vowed that the government would utilise all resources to promote tourism and sports in the tribal district.

The games included cricket, a cycle race, volleyball, tug-of-war, karate, gymnastics, arrow targeting and kabaddi.

The chief guest distributed prizes among the winning teams and best players.

TRAINING: As many as 645 personnel of the special police force completed training from the recruit training centre on Friday.

Speaking to the recruits, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa DIG training Feroze Shah said special force was making huge sacrifices for ensuring restoration of complete peace in the province.

He said the government was making all-out efforts to ensure protection to the life and property of people.

The ceremony was also attended by director training centre Abdul Hayee, district police officer Shafiullah

Gandapur, SP investigations Mir Faraz, SP Frontier Reserve Police, Kohat region, Amanullah, civil and police officials.

OLD GRAVES DUG UP: Thieves have dug up centuries-old graves the second time in the vicinity of an archaeological site in search of treasure trove, a local informed Dawn on Friday.

Masood Khan Khalil, who lives in his farmhouse in the area, said during a visit to the area he found three graves dug up. He said the graves were dug very deep, probably in search of some antiques.

A historian, Fazlur Rehman, told Dawn that Sher Mohammad Khan Bangash, who accompanied Mehmood of Ghazni during his attacks from 998 to 1030 to rob temples to build his empire in Afghanistan, also lied buried near the graves.

Earlier, the thieves had also plundered the grave of king Jamhoor Jan in Durrani graveyard, which is two kilometres from the Kohat city.
