TMA fumigates Naurang Town to prevent dengue outbreak

LAKKI MARWAT: The tehsil municipal administration carried out fumigation in Naurang Town on Tuesday to stop spread of dengue, malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases.

An official said deputy commissioner Fazal Akbar had directed the TMA and officials of relevant departments to take preventive steps against dengue. He said fumigation would help kill mosquitoes and protect people from the vector-borne diseases.

He said municipal workers also sprinkled pesticides in drains to eliminate dengue larvae. The administration has also launched an awareness campaign to sensitise citizens to the symptoms, treatment and preventive measures against dengue, he added.

Meanwhile, district education officer Zahoor Khan has asked heads of schools to educate students on preventive measures against dengue.

In a letter to school heads and sub-divisional education officers, he said banners and posters carrying messages on symptoms, treatment and preventive measures against dengue should be displayed in schools.

He asked them to remove stagnant water spots from premises of schools and ensure water did not accumulate on rooftops.

He also asked for arranging awareness sessions in classrooms and morning assembly.

DRUG ADDICTS REHAB: Under its plan to rehabilitate drug addicts, the Bannu administration has formed a committee to formulate a workable mechanism to achieve the goal.

Talking to volunteers from Janikhel on Tuesday, deputy commissioner Aun Haidar Gondal said the committee headed by additional deputy commissioner Islahuddin would visit the health complex in Bannu city to inspect available facilities there and propose steps for further improvement.

The volunteers informed the deputy commissioner that they had collected data of drug addicts for their rehabilitation. They said the administration could help make drug addicts useful citizens.

Mr Gondal appreciated the volunteers and said drug addicts from Janikhel and other areas would be admitted to the health complex for rehabilitation under supervision of medical experts.

SMUGGLER ARRESTED: Police on Tuesday arrested a drug smuggler and recovered narcotics from him in Tajazai area of Lakki Marwat.

A narcotics eradication team headed by DSP Murad Khan raided a place in Tajazai and arrested a drug trafficker identified as Usama. The policemen also seized eight kilogrammes hashish and one kg ice drug from him.

A case was registered against him.
