If you have watched Netflix’s Elite you’ll remember the controversial school Las Encinas and its students Samuel, Guzman, Nadia, Carla, Cayetana, Lucrecia and Rebeca. If five seasons weren’t enough for the Spanish series itself, streaming giant Netflix has now announced an official Indian adaptation of the series called Class.

On Saturday, the platform unveiled many shows during its Tudum livestream, of which Class caught everyone’s attention for its similarities to Elite.

The young adult show follows live events that unfold when two worlds collide, shaking up the relationships and lives of students hailing from high-profile families with dark secrets of their own. The trailer opens with two students at New Delhi’s upscale Hampton International School where, much like Elite, three new students from different backgrounds have entered, facing the challenges around the existing dynamics at the elite enclave.

The show is being produced by Bodhitree Multimedia Limited, directed by Ashim Ahluwalia. It stars Gurfateh Pirzada, Anjali Sivaraman, Ayesha Kanga, Chayan Chopra, Cyaawal Singh, Chintan Rach, Madhyama Segal, Moses Koul, Naina Bhan, Piyush Khati and Zeyn Shaw in leading roles.

While the Spanish series is gearing up for season 6, likely to release in 2023, Class does not have a release date yet.

Will be a grand old flop, as all cheap copies are. Only Indians will watch, good diversion for the 90% poor.

Looks boring like all their shows. Turkey has made far better adaptations of this series.

There are hundreds of successful Indian shows & movies streaming on Netflix, Amazon & other streaming platforms whereas there’s almost zero Pakistani content anywhere. India’s soft power is spreading far and fast.
