SAHIWAL: A death sentence convict was strangled to death by another prisoner at the Sahiwal Central Prison on Wednesday.

Sources said Qurban was attacked by Jaffar, also on death row, over a dispute. Qurban was shifted to the prison hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

DIG Malik Shaukat reached the central prison for inquiry into the incident.

Jaffar was jailed after the Civil Lines police registered a case against him in a murder case. He was awarded death sentence by court. Qurban and his father Khadim Hussain, residents of Pakpattan, also were booked on murder charges and both were awarded death sentence.

The dead body of Qurban was sent for postmortem at the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital. The deceased’s family protested against the prison staff.
