QUETTA, Dec 20: Veteran Baloch leader Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti has said that security forces have established around 46 new bunkers in and around Dera Bugti in violation of the agreement reached with the government in April this year on removal of unnecessary trenches by both sides.

Speaking to reporters in his native Dera Bugti on Tuesday, he said that security forces were deployed at every turn of roads in the area and in pastures for goats.

“The government itself has ended the gentleman’s agreement although we honoured the Baloch word,” Nawab Bugti said, adding that under that agreement FC and Bugti tribesmen had vacated all their positions between April 13 and 16 this year.

He said that when he agreed to sign the agreement with the government after several rounds of talks with Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, many well-wishers had warned him in view of the past experience that the government would not honour the agreement and, therefore, Bugti tribesmen should not vacate their bunkers.

Nawab Bugti said he had told them that he had given the “Baloch word” and he would be honour it. He said the government violated the accord and re-occupied the bunkers in Dera Bugti.

He rejected statements given by government officials and ministers about the ongoing operation in Kohlu and other areas and said that Dera Bugti was under siege and the government was deploying troops for conducting an operation any time.

Nawab Bugti claimed that helicopter gunships and jet fighters were bombing the Marri area and around 60 people had been killed and more than a 100 injured.

He said that Marri area was also blocked from three sides and now the government was trying to cut off the Bugti area from the Kohlu district.

He alleged that security forces were firing rockets in different areas of Dera Bugti and on Monday night around 25 artillery shells were fired into the area. He said that a large number of people had moved to other places for fear of a military operation and half of the Dera Bugti bazar had been closed, causing a shortage of foodstuff and other goods.
