PESHAWAR, Dec 20: The NWFP cabinet met here on Tuesday and approved the Amended Madaris Registration Ordinance, upgrading Arabic teachers from BPS-9 to BPS-15 and theology teachers to BPS-14 from BPS-7.

This was stated by NWFP Minister for Information Asif Iqbal, Provincial Minister for Industry, Malik Zafar Azam and Provincial Minister for Education, Fazal Ali, who briefed reporters about the cabinet meeting. The cabinet meeting was presided over by Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani.

Malik Zafar Azam said the Ittehad Tanzeematul Madaris had some objections over previous ordinance of Madaris registration, adding the provincial cabinet had amended the ordinance in the light of those objections.

The decision, he said would benefit 1,740 Arabic teachers and 910 theology teachers.

The NWFP information minister said the meeting had decided to urge NGOs to keep close liaison with the DCOs concerned. — APP
