[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Morocco,] King Hasan II escaped two attacks today [Aug 16] by jet fighters firing rockets and machineguns, in mid-air, at the Boeing in which he was travelling. An unknown number of people were killed when the Moroccan Air Force fighters strafed Rabat’s Sale Airport just after the King’s plane had landed... . The King reportedly returned safely to his palace.

Earlier, the Royal Airliner had been attacked in mid-air by one of the F-5s in the escort squadron. The attack came as the King’s plane crossed the Moroccan coast... . Just over a year ago, some 90 people were killed in an attempted military coup at King Hasan’s palace. The King was unhurt on that occasion too.
