LAHORE: A seven-event card, featuring three prestigious cup races to be held in connection with the celebrations of Pakistan’s 75th Independence Day, will be run at the day/night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.
The main attraction will be the Independence Day Cup, a class VI division II, III and IV combined handicap race to be contested over 1300 metres, where bay colts Sea Bird and Market Leader and prestigious bloodline filly Queen are prominent among the six thoroughbred acceptors. Each of the trio has won a race to merit contention in the fifth event in the racing order.
The main supporting event, the Jashn-e-Azadi Cup — a class VII division I and II handicap race to be gone over 1100 metres, has seven runners with the quartet of Silent Assassin, Drums Of War, Mera Gondal and Amaar Love looking to be the main contenders in the fourth race.
The second supporting event, the Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar Cup — a class VII Division 11 race to be contested over 1000 metres, has nine runners with fillies Queen’s Gambit and Squid Game as well as gelding Sehar among the top contenders.
The opening race has a field of ten runners composed of all maidens with Umer Princess, Wonder Boy and Mafnood Jr looking to break their duck.
In the third race, six horses are to vie for the honours after the withdrawal of two. It looks a match between bay colts Chota Bravo and Chacha.
The seventh and the last race has ten runners and it looks an open affair with nearly a half-dozen performers clustered to fight for the honours.
The first race will be held at 5.00pm.
