Bandit shot dead in encounter

SHEIKHUPURA, Jan 28: A bandit was shot dead while three others escaped in a shootout with a local police team here on Sunday night.

Reports reaching here revealed four highwaymen barricaded the road leading to Choqab village and deprived passers-by of cash and valuables.

The armed men waylaid one Akram coming in a car (LHV-1838) and tried to loot cash from him when scores of passersby appeared on the scene. The bandits fled from the scene.

The Ferozewala police team chased the bandits. In the exchange of firing that ensued, Liaquat was shot dead. His three accomplices, including Shafiq Virk, managed to escape.

LOOTED: Robbers on Monday took away cement bags and other valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from an under-construction soap factory on the Lahore-Sheikhupura Road.

Nearly 18 robbers entered the factory after overpowering watchman Muzamil and took away material used in construction.

Model Soap Factory owner Nadeem Safdar has got a case registered with the area police.

KILLED: A minor boy was crushed under the wheels of a jeep near Thabal Morr, Jaranwala Road, some 42km from here, on Monday.

Six-year-old Mubashar was walking along the road when the rashly-driven jeep knocked him down. He died on the spot.

Police are in search of the absconding driver.
