The PML-N bagged just 4 seats in the Punjab by-election, but all of Twitter’s memes are dedicated to Maryam Nawaz

Netizens have serious jokes after Imran Khan's PTI led the by-election with 15 seats and the PML-N got only four.
18 Jul, 2022

Sunday saw many residents of Punjab heading to polling booths for a crucial by-election, the results of which will pose a threat to Hamza Shehbaz’s government in Punjab. The PTI won 15 seats and netizens took the opportunity to liven up Twitter with the help of some memes poking fun at PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz.

On July 17, PTI routed the PML-N by winning 15 seats in the crucial by-elections on 20 seats that were left vacant after the disqualification of PTI members who had voted for Hamza for the Punjab chief minister’s office.

Taking the opportunity, some Twitter users thought they knew how Maryam was watching the results in quarantine after testing positive for Covid-19.

Others had some advice on where to start checking the results.

Some could picture her reaction.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa’s Majulika also entered the chat.

There were A LOT of crying memes — we sense a pattern here.

We meant it.

But for all the crying memes, Maryam accepted the results and tweeted that one must accept defeat as it’s common in politics to win and lose.

Celebrities also lined up to comment on the results, including Faysal Quraishi, Muneeb Butt, Haroon Shahid, Samina Peerzada, Mariyam Nafees and Anoushey Ashraf.

i think maryam nawaz has done great campaign and i salute her despite loss ot was very close contest on.many seats plus dont forget these all 20 seats are of PTI and now they lost 5 of them means they lost 25% of seats in this election compared to 2018 so i fail to understand why expert say and seeing it as game changer win for PTI

@ asif That is not correct. Only half the seats were won by PTI in 2018. It lost the rest to independent candidates in 2018 (who only after winning their seats joined PTI). In fact, in 2018, in 8 of these seats, the combined vote of the independent candidate and the PMLN candidate was about twice that of the PTI candidate. So, it's remarkable that not only did PTI win all the seats it won in 2018, it also won half those seats that it had lost in 2018 to independents, despite other parties' united opposition as well as the state apparatus being in the hands of its opponents.

@ asif No. Check your facts! PTI had won only 10 of these seats in 2018. The other 10 were independent. So, PTI gained 5 more!

@ asif you fail to understand because you are buying into the narrative by PMLN. Please go and check the results of these seats, only 10 were won by PTI rest were independents who latter joined PTI. So NO PTI didn't lose 25% of seats, they have gained 25% of seats and this is done while they are in opposition. So kudos to them

@ asif Did you actually check who had these 20 seats in 2018? I didn't think so. PTI had 10 of these and 10 were independents. Hence PTI gained 5 more.

They would have lost 18-19 had they not used scare tactics, brazen use of state machinery and prepoll rigging. Secondly they are still lying that these 20 seats were PTI. No 10 of these were held by independents who joined PTI after winning. So PTI actually won extra 5 seats from independent plus all 13 PDM parties combined.

It’s not right time for PML-N, PPP to expect big wins when PTI rating are too high in the country lead by IK but if NS returns will make a good difference in next general elections for PML-N and for PPP no hope in Punjab.

@ asif Out of 20, 10 were lost by PTI, and the independents joined the party after defeating it in general elections. So PTI has in fact gained 5 seats. In other 10 as well, PTI's first choice candidates left the part and these elections were fought with 2nd choice candidates.

30 to 40 years of our political system has gotten too corrupt and distasteful. Openly money laundering and dishonesty has created a climate of uncertainty among the voters. Last chance for Pakistan is the PTI to reflect honesty and care of public. Foreign and our military interference must be stopped. It’s not a PTI’s win but our public is tired of corrupt politicians and their dishonesties that resulted in rejection of them.

Maryam Nawaz still lives in fantasy, she never worked hard for everything she has and on top of that Mian Sahib family is not realizing that it’s not 1990, social media is very powerful and you can’t hide things anymore. Imran Khan has given people a lot of awareness and he is an excellent communicator and teacher. What N League did in Islamabad on May 25, by tear gasing women and children was brutal and people of Pakistan will never forget that .
