KARACHI, Dec 13: Asif Mujtaba, the former Test batsman, hit a defiant hundred as PIA held Habib Bank to a tame draw in their Patron’s Trophy Grade-I cricket championship match at UBL Sports Complex on Tuesday.

The left-handed Asif made a polished 103 and stand-in skipper Faisal Iqbal a fighting 82 as PIA were dismissed for 395 in their first innings in reply to bankers’ massive total of 681 for eight declared.

Skipper Hasan Raza decided not to enforce the follow-on. The bankers scored 38 for one wicket in their second innings when the match was called off early.

Asif, who struck 12 boundaries in his 339-minute innings and faced 252 balls, put on 154 for the fifth-wicket with Faisal.

PIA’s innings ended in a dramatic fashion as the last four wickets fell for one run in seven overs with part-time spinners Imran Farhat and Hasan Raza grabbing two wickets each.

The bankers collected three points for the first-innings lead.
