BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman, as the chancellor, has taken notice of the pending matters in various public sector universities of Punjab, especially the appointment of vice chancellors and pro-vice chancellors against vacant posts.
According to an official handout issued here on Wednesday, the governor took notice of the vacant posts of vice chancellors (VCs) in different public sector universities and directed the administrative departments of these institutions to start the process of appointment six months before the expiry of the VC’s term.
The governor said timely appointment of VCs against the vacant posts was essential for the effective running of the varsities’ educational and administrative affairs.
The handout added the governor also took notice of the long standing vacant posts of pro-VCs in the public sector varsities and sought nominations for these slots.
He said appointment of the VCs was not only a requirement under law, but also necessary to ensure uninterrupted supervision of universities’ affairs.
The governor said the main objective of the government was to promote higher education in the country and all resources were being utilised for the purpose.
He said a vice chancellors’ conference would be convened soon to improve the affairs of the universities, adding that a consortium was also being formed in the universities to work on environmental issues.
