The latest season of Netflix’s Stranger Things has pushed total viewership for the series to more than 1.15 billion hours, the streaming service said on Tuesday.

The science-fiction drama starring Winona Ryder and Millie Bobby Brown has become the most popular English-language series on Netflix. The only other Netflix show to cross 1 billion viewing hours is South Korean drama Squid Game.

Stranger Things also hit No.1 on Netflix’s Top 10 lists in 91 countries, a first for an English-language TV series, the company said.

Shortly after the final episodes aired, Stranger Things also broke Nielsen streaming record for most-viewed programme in a week’s time. The show was viewed for 7.2 billion minutes between May 30 and June 5, which was around the time of the release of the show’s Season 4 volume 1. It easily secured the No.1 position on the chart.

The show’s fourth season concluded with the final two episodes released last week, briefly crashing the Netflix app as fans rushed to view it.

Not only did the recent season break several records, it also pushed a 1985 song ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)’ by Kate Bush to the top of the charts 37 years after its release. The song has now found a new fanbase among a younger generation in the latest season of the show.

The sci-fi drama, set in the 1980s, debuted in 2016 showing supernatural horror emerging from the Upside Down, an alternate dimension and besetting the fictional Indiana town of Hawkins.
