SAHIWAL: The Higher Education Department has assigned three months additional charge of the six vacant posts of chairmen, Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), to respective divisional commissioners.

Dawn learnt from sources that commissioners of Bahawalpur, D. G. Khan, Fasilabad, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Sahiwal have been given additional charge of BISEs as a stopgap arrangements for the period of three months under section 14 (2) of BISE Act -1976.

Dr Hafiz Shafiq, ex-chairman of Sahiwal BISE, told Dawn three years terms of the chairmen (including himself) expires on July 3 (today) and it was in this background that divisional commissioners had been given the additional charge for three months.

LEVY ON RETAILERS: Though DC Khizer Afzal has formed a committee headed by Dr Asadur Rehman, extra assistant director agriculture marketing, to resolve conflict between office-bearers of Fruit Retailers Association (FRA) and Fruit Merchants Association (FRA) but the situation did not resolve even after a dialogue among all stakeholders on Saturday.

Dr Asad told Dawn the committee had categorically told commission agents to remain within existing law parameters described under Rules 40 (4), Punjab Market Committee Regulations-2020.

The law categorically stated Rs. 2 and Rs.10 levy would be taken from retailers.
