KARACHI, Dec 12: Gadap Town Nazim Ghulam Murtaza Baloch expressing concern over the growing incidents of sand gravel extraction, robberies, and activities of gambling dens in the area has directed the police to take stern action against the culprits.
The nazim, who had been briefed by the councillors about the growing crime rate in their localities, was talking to the police officials in an open kutchery held on Monday.
The councillors had informed the nazim that thieves were also stealing the KESC’s high tension wires owing to which many villages remained without power supply for many days and the agriculture was also suffering owing to water scarcity as the tubewell motors could not be operated without electricity.
TPO Asghar Shah informed the meeting that 16 people, who were involved in sand gravel extraction had already been arrested from Maimarabad, while robbers had been killed / injured in encounters with the police in Gulshan-i-Maimar, while a huge consignment of arms had also been recovered.
He assured the meeting that all the gambling dens would be raided and closed down with in a week.
JAMSHED TOWN: Jamshed Town Nazim Col (Retd) Tahir Mashhadi has said that a master plan has been prepared to launch a comprehensive anti-encroachment drive in the town with strategy to discourage their re-emergence, adds APP.
He announced this while talking to a delegation comprising notables from areas of Tariq Road, Jamshed Road, Jehangir Road, Teen Hatti, Mehmoodabad and Manzoor Colony on Monday.
The town nazim advised the encroachers to remove their settlements themselves within a week. In case of failure, he warned them of strict action regardless of any influence or pressure.
He said action would also be initiated against those government employees who were found directly or indirectly involved in setting up of these encroachments.
Tahir Mashhadi described these encroachments as illegal and against the norms of an enlightened society. He said that the encroachments were cause of nuisance and hardships for the area residents besides interrupting the flow of traffic.
He pointed out that there was a mafia responsible for encroaching land. But, he said that they could never be stronger than the city government.
