LAHORE: Rank-outsider chestnut horse Chhota Raja swept the field to win the Sprint Cup in the crowning event of the five-race card decided during the second day/night Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday evening.

Trained by Sajid Mahmood and ridden by Hassan Toor, Chhota Raja led the pack right from the very start and kept on the pace well to win by a eight lengths from the co-favourite chestnut horse Noman The Great, who nosed out favourite colt Wonder Boy to third place among eight runners.

In the main supporting event, the Jhelum Plate Class VII Division I and II contested over 1000 metres, the 70 to 100 favourite filly Sand Storm made amends for her three consecutive defeats to register a maiden victory. Ridden by Aftab Choudhry the filly made a perfect move in the early part of the race to forge in to lead and kept on till the finish line beating onrushing bay horse Well Done Pakistan by over a length. Chestnut Barbarians Charge occupied third place among seven runners.

In the second supporting event, the Jhelum

Plate class VII division III and IV gone over 1000 metres, even-money favourite horse Zaman Sahib pulled away from the field while entering in to the straight and won by six lengths from chestnut Fortuner. Javed Iqbal rode the winner trained by Zahid Khan.

The first race was one by Merchant of Venus (6 to 1) while Jaidi’s Pride (5 to 2) won the third race.
