All it took was an announcement of a massive hike in the price of petrol products by the sitting government for meme-makers on Twitter to unite over their shared anguish.

On Thursday night, Finance Minister Miftah Ismail announced that the federal government had decided to raise the prices of petroleum products by Rs30 per litre, starting from today (Friday). Ever since his announcement, many people have taken to Twitter to discuss the sudden price hike but most importantly, to share their memes.

This Twitter user is ready to hold a funeral for his motorcycle.

Another shared a chase scene from film Hera Pheri starring Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Paresh Rawal and Johnny Lever to describe the current situation, especially at petrol stations.

The Wolf Of Wall Street's Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) also made it to the meme-fest.

It's time we bring back horse carts. According to this user, it's the only solution left.

Selling our souls for petrol sounds about right.

This Twitter user is in the same bicycle-less boat as us.

One user found only one use left for their car — a massive planter.

Fuel being sold in sachets? Sounds very Pakistani.

What's your favourite meme?

It became inevitable for the incumbent government to continue to give subsidy on petrol prices which was announced by the then PM Imran Khan by saying that his govt. was able to collect adequate of amount of money through collection of taxes and that is why he had announced subsidy on petrol and electricity tariff, though the actual story is that Imran Khan knew that he won't be staying in the govt. much longer and allowed subsidy to create financial crises for the next govt. of PDM to face. The subsidy continued for two months but after the negotiations between the IMF and incumbent govt. failed, there was no other option left for the present govt. to increase petrol prices and will also withdraw subsidy from electricity tariff to get the required payment released from IMF in order to save the country from default. People having been facing exorbitant inflation during the tenure of Imran Khan's govt. and will also have to bear the inflation in the best interest of the country.

It should be increased to 220. Still it’s much below the price. Government must increase tax collection to get IMF loans and generate some capacity to return loans. IT also needs to be increased.

PTI had laid a landmine for PML-N for not raising the petrol price in a timely manner. Now, it wants to put all blame on PML-N for the recent price hike. It is not fair.

Government needs to have a plan to subsidize for poor. Not for everyone. Actually it works be raised to 210 which is the actual cost on international market.

Era of tangas and horse carts is expected to re- emerge. The price of petrol is not viable these days. Re- introduction of electric tram, electric buses, and promotions of e- cars, e- buses will address the situation.

@AI I am sure that you would have listen to the speech of PM Shehbaz Sharif being his first address to the nation after taking oath on April 11, 2022 and he have categorically mentioned about the that fact as what makes Imran Khan to announce subsidies on the petrol and electricity charges before being ousted from the government after vote of no confidence was passed against him on April 10, 2022.
