FAISALABAD, Oct 15: The Agriculture University, Faisalabad, has formally launched its website containing history of the institution and information regarding subjects, teachers and students.

Vice-chancellor Dr Riaz Husain Qureshi inaugurated the site (http://www.uaf.edu.com) in a ceremony held here on Monday.

Addressing participants, the VC said modern methods and techniques had become an integral part of education in the world of information technology. The university had, he said, made it mandatory for the agriculture degree-holders to get training in computer.

Meanwhile, the university has fixed Oct 20 as the last date for receiving applications from graduates for morning classes of masters in chemistry, biochemistry, botany, zoology, physics, civics, rural sociology, fibre technology and computer sciences.

WALL-CHALKING: Wall-chalking on the boundary walls of private and government institutes still goes on unabated despite the ban imposed on it by the Punjab government.

Having been around the city on Monday, it was observed that religious leaders, manufacturers of various products and cinema owners have never been punished by the district administration for violating the ban.

The unscrupulous elements have used hospitals, green-parks and mosques especially in the internal parts of the city.

Projection of Punjabi, Urdu and English feature films can be seen every where. However, the authorities concerned have never raised objection to pasting of posters.

Religious organizations have also plagued the city with painting of provocative slogans.

HELD: Civil Lines police on Monday arrested a youth who was travelling by his car in guise of a police official.

The team reportedly intercepted a car (FDY-207) near the Chenab Club Chowk for having a revolving police light.

Driver Shahid introduced himself as a police official but failed to show any document.

The police booked the accused under section 279 and 180 PPC.

CONFERENCE: A national seminar on “free fixation of prices of agricultural products” will be held here at the agriculture university on Oct, 20. The Advisor to President on Food and Agriculture, Shafi Niaz, will be the chief guest while Vice-chancellor Riaz Husain Qureshi will preside over the conference.

Renowned agriculture research scientists and experts from all over the country will address the participants.

Meanwhile, the annual conference under the aegis of Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy will be held at a local hotel on Oct 27. Medical experts will speak on the occasion.
