LAKKI MARWAT: Two children drowned in a pond in Wanda Amir village of Lakki Marwat on Wednesday.

A rescue official said nine-year-old Rafia and her brother Abubakar, 8, died while taking a bath in a pond to beat the heat. The pond was dug out to store water for a brick kiln.

The official said the bodies were retrieved from the pond and shifted to the Government City Hospital. He said the bodies were later handed over to their father.

Separately, a woman killed her husband in Malakabad area of Naurang town on Wednesday. Police said the woman shot her husband dead with an assault rifle and fled the scene. They said the killer was stated to be mentally-challenged.

Nek Rehman, 9, told the police in preliminary report that when was returning from a neighbourer’s house, he saw her mother running away with a rifle, telling him that she had killed his father.

The complainant said when he entered his house he saw his father lying on the ground profusely bleeding.

He said his father died before being shifted to hospital. The police said the family belonging to Miramshah area of North Waziristan was living in Malakabad locality. They said they had arrested the killer.

Separately, the police arrested an alleged killer half an hour after he along with two other accomplices shot dead a villager in Domel area of Bannu on Wednesday.

The police said suspects, Shahzad, Hanifullah and Shereen, had escaped after killing Tilawat Khan.

They said the police arrested one of the killers, Shahzad, after a brief chase.
