KHYBER: The Christian community here has demanded of the provincial government to announce a special financial scheme for them so they could buy private property for residential purposes in Khyber.

Arshad Masih, a minority councillor in Landi Kotal, in his applications to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa additional chief secretary and deputy commissioner, Khyber, stated that scores of Christian families were residing in Khyber, mostly in Landi Kotal and Jamrud, since 1914 in official quarters and had no houses of their own.

He contended that with the increase in their population they were unable to live in their old dilapidated and congested quarters and had to shift to other cities where they would also face similar problems.

The councillor resented that they had approached the government officials and departments for redressal of their problems, but to no avail.

He demanded of the provincial government to devise a special financial scheme through which the Christian community could buy private property and build their own houses in Khyber district.
