LAHORE: Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has proposed reserving seats in the national and provincial assemblies for the Pakistani expatriates.

Speaking at an Overseas Pakistanis Convention at the Governor House on Thursday, he said the non-resident Pakistanis were the biggest asset to the country as they were sending about Rs30bn remittances annually.

The governor said the initiative of a digital portal for the Pakistanis living abroad was a testament of love from the PTI and the overseas Pakistanis had also become a part of democracy. He said the PTI government was working for eliminating political interference from all institutions.

Mr Sarwar said special judges were working in the subordinate judiciary along with the Lahore High Court (LHC) to solve cases of the overseas Pakistanis. “The cases of overseas Pakistanis are being decided in months, not years.”

The governor said acquisition of power of attorney had been a big problem for Pakistanis abroad but the PTI government had also solved it. He said online verification and issuance of power of attorney would benefit thousands of Pakistanis abroad. Special Assistant to Prime Minister Syed Makhdoom Tariq also spoke.
