KARACHI, Nov 29: Another eight patients of the viral haemorrhagic fever were brought to the Civil Hospital Karachi and the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, said sources in the health circle.

Three patients who landed in the JPMC on Tuesday were Salman, 17, with nose bleeding, Asadullah, 18, with bleeding from eyes, and a young man whose name could not be availed from the hospital officials.

Another case of similar viral fever was reported at the JPMC late on Monday night. All these patients are male and have been suspected of contracting Dengue.

Another three patients, Gul Wali, 22, Mohammad Jamshed, 25, and Naureen, 18, with history of bleeding and prolonged fever, were brought to the Civil Hospital Karachi on Tuesday from different parts of Karachi.

On Monday too, a case of viral haemorrhagic fever, Dawood, 25, was brought to the hospital.

After the new admissions the number of patients under treatment at the isolation ward of CHK reached 7 on Tuesday.

At the Aga Khan University Hospital, there are seventeen patients of this suspected haemorrhagic fever under treatment.

Meanwhile, an isolation ward is being established at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to manage the patients suffering from this viral fever.

According to the executive director of the JPMC, the patients suffering from haemorrhagic fever were shifted from casualty section to special ward where the other patients suspected of contracting the same viral infection had been kept for treatment.

Dr Mashoor said that since the number of patients was increasing at the JPMC it had been now decided that the Chest OPD be converted into an isolation ward to facilitate more patients.

At present the portion of the special ward allocated for fever patients have the capacity of 4-5 beds, while the new isolation ward, which would be made functional with necessary equipment, facilities, doctors and paramedical staff from Wednesday, would have an accommodation for 35-40 patients.

To a question, he said that the patient whose blood tests reports from the NIH Islamabad had showed positive for Dengue had already been discharged after proper treatment.
