MARDAN, Jan 26: Passengers from the NWFP have condemned the misbehaviour of Punjab Excise Department.

They also demanded of the governor and president to check the humiliation of the commuters at the hands of excise officials.

Many people told Dawn that officials of the department teased the passengers on the pretext of checking smuggled or banned items.

They claimed that usually officials of the department stopped vehicles on GT Road and ordered the commuters to come out.

They carried out body search upto humiliation. Even match boxes in the pockets were checked, they added.

All this degradation went unchecked from the provincial ministers and secretaries, the people said.

They mentioned that a large number of people from Punjab travel to Peshawar, particularly to Hayat Abad for smuggling, but NWFP police did not tease or humiliate them.
