RAWALPINDI: The district administration on Tuesday revised the price list for edible items.

As per the official list, mutton price has been increased from Rs1,000 per kg to Rs1,200 and beef price fixed at Rs600 per kg. However, mutton is being sold at Rs1,400 per kg and beef at Rs700-Rs750 per kg.

The official price of milk has been fixed at Rs130 per litre but in the open market it is available at Rs140 while yogurt’s official price is Rs140 and it is selling at Rs150.

According to the price list, Dal Channa is available at Rs160 per kg, Dal Channa (small) at Rs145 per kg, chickpeas at Rs210 per kg, Dal Mong at Rs145 per kg, Dal Masoor at Rs238, Dal Mash at Rs240, Dal Mash (small) at Rs250 per kg, rice super Basmati at Rs140 per kg and broken rice at Rs70 per kg.

On the other hand, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal to review the performance of price magistrates.

The meeting was informed that the price magistrates conducted 1,634 raids in different markets and bazaars of the district and imposed Rs149,300 fines on violators.

The commissioner asked the officials to ensure implementation of the official price list in all markets and bazaars. He said action should be taken against shopkeepers not displaying the official price list in front of their shops and involved in overcharging.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) on Tuesday launched a drive against outlets selling substandard food. Teams from the food branch sealed five outlets and imposed fines of Rs160,000 on several shopkeepers in seven markets.

According to RCB spokesman Qaiser Mehmood Qamar, the teams visited Saddar, Gawalmandi, Misrial Road, Westridge, Tench Bhatta, Bakra Mandi and Range Road and found five outlets providing unhygienic food to the citizens. He said the food outlets were sealed and samples collected from there dispatched to Lahore for laboratory examination.

He said the station commander had asked the civic body to conduct raids on a daily basis to ensure the outlets provided quality food to their customers.
