PESHAWAR: The government abruptly prorogued the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Thursday, which remained in session for almost six months.

An official notification said that exercising his constitutional powers Governor Shah Farman ordered that the session of the assembly shall stand prorogued. The assembly had been in session since July 29, 2021, which is apparently one of the longest sessions in the parliamentary history of the assembly.

Earlier, the assembly’s session was adjourned till Jan 31. The government suddenly issued the notification about proroguing the session.

The treasury and opposition benches were in favour of proroguing the assembly owing to lack of interest of the lawmakers in the parliamentary business.
