RAWALPINDI: A woman was on Thursday arrested for allegedly murdering her husband after he planned to contract a second marriage.

Multan Khan, 73, in an FIR registered in the Saddar Barooni police station said his son Zulfiqar was sleeping in a room of his house when he heard a gunshot at 1:30am.

He said he rushed to the room and found his daughter-in-law carrying a pistol and standing close to her husband. After seeing him, he said, she escaped. The complainant said he found his son lying on a bed covered with a quilt.

When he removed the quilt, his son was found dead with a bullet wound in the neck. He said the couple had strained relations as Zulfiqar had decided to get a second marriage.

After registering a case, the police launched a hunt for the alleged killer and arrested her. She will be produced before court for remand custody, the police said.
