RAWALPINDI: Divisional Commissioner Noorul Amin Mengal on Wednesday inaugurated the anti-polio counter at Rawalpindi Railway Station by administering vaccine to children.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mengal inquired about the problems facing the vaccination team at the railway station as well as the difficulties encountered in the campaign.

Meanwhile, the anti-polio meeting held by the health department at the Commissioner’s Office reviewed the ongoing drive.

Presiding over the meeting, the commissioner said although the environment samples were testing negative since April last year, “we have been instructed to ensure every child in the district is vaccinated”.

He said special attention would be given to the Afghan migrants as well as children who were still deprived of regular polio immunisation vaccines, adding that children who were traveling should be specially inoculated against polio to prevent the spread of the virus.

Mr Mengal said polio was a collective responsibility for which all departments need to fully cooperate with the health department.

Updating on the campaign, the health officials said about 290,000 children had been vaccinated against polio on the third day of the drive.
