MUZAFFARGARH: The Nishtar Hospital Multan has been on high alert since the death of a Chinese man due to gas leakage in a private factory and hospitalisation of a dozen other workers on Saturday.

The body of the deceased, identified as Zong Chung, was shifted to Nishtar Hospital’s morgue while arrangements were also made for treatment of another Chinese man and 12 other affected patients.

The incident took place on Saturday in a batteries factory in the industrial area of Multan where two Chinese men and 12 local workers fainted.

They were shifted to the Nishtar Hospital for treatment where Zong Chung died while his compatriot was in an unconscious condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).

The local workers who were affected included Fiaz, Haneed, Qamar, Mehtab, Muzammil, Osama, Safdar and Noman.

Sources said carbon dioxide leaked when the workers were busy working in the unit. After they were shifted to the Nishtar Hospital for treatment, Medical Superintendent Dr Muhammad Amjad Chandio issued high alert in the hospital.

The Muzaffarabad police launched an investigation into the incident.
