KARACHI: The consulate general of the Federal Republic of Germany in Karachi under its micro project scheme in collaboration with Trash It launched an environmental project at Clifton’s Aunty Park on Saturday afternoon.

The programme started at 11am when groups of young volunteers began to gather at the venue. After director general-parks Junaidullah Khan arrived as the chief guest, the young ones were divided into groups. Each group was assigned a ‘patch’ of the area. They were given gloves and garbage bags for picking the trash off the ground and put it in bins.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Khan said, “First of all I would like to thank the German Consulate for taking the initiative and ownership of the park. They have started a drive for plantation and the park’s cleaning.

The Aunty Park project has the following objectives: an extensive cleaning of the park; removal of all debris and unwanted waste in and outside the park; improving and installing the park’s infrastructural resources; creating a waste drop off station for the community; and plantation along with other maintenance work. The initiative will continue until March 12.
