After Preity Zinta, actor Swara Bhasker is the next Bollywood star to embrace an alternative road to parenthood and announce her desire of becoming a mother by starting a family via adoption.

Bhasker revealed in an interview to Mid-Day that she applied for adoption with the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) and is currently on the waiting list. “I know the waiting period is long, often as long as three years, but I can’t wait to be a parent to a child through adoption,” she said

Recently, Bhasker celebrated Diwali at an orphanage in Delhi and made the decision to adopt. “I’ve always wanted a family and children. I realised that adoption was a way to marry these things,” she said.

She also shared some precious moments from her visit on Instagram. "The orphan crisis is India’s least talked about crisis. We as a society MUST do more. This festive season open your hearts to India’s orphans. Start by becoming aware." she captioned it.

The Ranjhanaa actor stated that it wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment sort of decision. She said she’d read up on the topic extensively, thoroughly researched the process in India and met many couples who have adopted a child as well as adults who’d been adopted.

Bhasker considered it “lucky” that the state allows single women to adopt. She also shared that her parents have been absolutely supportive of her decision.

The actor is best known for her supporting roles in Tanu weds Manu and Nil Battey Sannata. She recently won the Best Actress in a Supporting Role award for her performance in the short film Sheer Qorma at the Soho London Independent Film Festival.

Times are changing and people are becoming more accepting of alternative family ideas. We think adoption is a lovely way to go especially since it ensures a child gets the love and care they currently lack. Safe to say, we love Bhasker's decision.

She’s doesn’t want to waste time in pregnancy and post-delivery care. She’s right now earning 10s of crore per year in movies, TV shows and serials. She’s trying to show her selfishness as if it’s a virtue. Many western models/actors do the same when they love money too much and also want good publicity of adopting kids.

There should be strict standards to adopt a kid, its an innocent's future involved. Only the right and decent person should be allowed to adopt a child.

She is great secularist. She is the only one who would adopt a Muslim Child and raise as Muslim or adopt a Christian and raise it as Christian.
