RAWALPINDI: An official spokesman told newsmen here today [Nov 24] that Pakistan would welcome any move by interested Powers to stop the fighting along East Pakistan’s borders. Replying to newsmen’s questions … the spokesman said fighting had begun as a result of Indian aggression against East Pakistan. Any action by interested Powers to stop it would be welcomed by Pakistan.

He said the President of Pakistan had written to the Heads of Government of friendly and major Powers about the latest developments. Information had also been passed through diplomatic channels to the United States. The question of raising the matter in the Security Council, he added, was under the consideration of the Government. — Staff correspondent

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Washington,] Senate leaders called for an immediate UN Security Council meeting on the India Pakistan crisis. Senate Democratic leader Mike Mansfield and Republican leader Hugh Scott also warned against the US becoming involved in the fighting although they supported humanitarian aid.

[News agencies add from Dacca] This morning [Nov 24] the Indian Army opened yet another front at Hilli in district Dinajpur. … Repeated desperate attempts of the attackers were beaten back with heavy casualties.
