TAXILA: A man was shot dead while a woman attempted suicide in the limits of Hazro police station on Wednesday.

In the first incident, a man was shot dead over old enmity.

Police sources, while quoting witnesses, said Jabir Khan was going towards Muraria village when two masked men intercepted him and shot him, killing him on the spot. The assailants managed to escape from the scene.

In another incident, a 30-year-old attempted suicide by consuming acid in her house in Waisa.

Quoting family members of the woman identified as Hajra Bibi, the police said the woman was in distress over her marriage issue from the last couple of weeks.

On Wednesday the woman went to her room and consumed acid. She was shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the wildlife department booked eight people for illegal hunting of migratory birds in Dhoke Sawa in the limits of Fatehjang police station.

Rifles and ammunition were also recovered from their possession.
