FINALLY, the jinx has been broken. India, the formidable and one of the most favourite teams to lift the ongoing T20 World Cup, was brought down to earth with a ruthless 10-wicket thrashing as our boys outclassed the arch-rivals in every department of the game under the able leadership of Babar Azam, who led from the front.
This was a truely special day in our cricket history, too, as Pakistan scored its first victory over India in a World Cup setting. Our young and spirited lads played like a cohesive unit and exhibited their class and true potential at just the right time. Indubitably, this fabulous victory will do wonders in boosting their morale and confidence, providing them the much-needed fillip to do well in their efforts to clinch the trophy a second time.
Mohammad Rizwan proved his worth yet again, and this time more forcefully. His opening stand with the captain was impressive and laudable. One hopes this pair will bring many more laurels for the country.
Shaheen Shah Afridi has emerged as a much-improved bowler with his ability to swing the bowl, and the good thing is that he is getting better and better with every passing day. No praise is too lavish when it comes to describing his potential and achievements. He, indeed, has a great future ahead of him.
The performance of our new foreign coaches is yet to be judged. However, they can rightly take the credit of this thumping victory that the nation had been long waiting for. Aggression and body language exuding confidence were very much noticeable in the players on the field. They handled the match pressure remarkably well.
The entire nation is jubilant beyond words, and prays for more such great performances from the team to bring the Cup home. This classic victory will be remembered for a long time to come.
