BAHAWALPUR: Three people died and three others suffered injuries in a collision between a truck and a motorcycle-rickshaw at Batlian Adda on Vehari Road near Hasilpur, about 90 kilometres away from here, on Thursday.

Officials of Rescue 1122 said a group of people was going to attend a wedding ceremony by a motorcycle-rickshaw which overturned owing to speeding. Meanwhile, a truck hit the three-wheeler as a result of which Ahmed, 16, Ms Mehreen, 18, and Nasira died while Hammad, 16, Shehbaz, 15, and Ms Manzooran, 70, were injured. The injured were shifted to the THQ hospital.

Police handed over the bodies to the families after legal formalities.

In another accident, Muhammad Hafeez Joiya died when his tractor fell into a ravine along the road near Ahmedpur East.

OATH: The five elected members of the Bahawalpur Cantonment Board took oath of their offices on Thursday.

CB chairman Brig Abdul Rasheed Mahesar took oath from Rehan Bin Javed and Akhtar Chohan, both of PTI, and Abdul Malik, Abdul Khaliq and Muhammad Ali, of the PML-N, at a ceremony held at the Cantonment Board.

Returning Officer Ramiz Shafqat told Dawn that the polling for the election of the reserved seats of a minority member and a woman (worker) would be held at the office of the Cantonment Board on Oct 26.
