LAHORE, Jan 24: The Water and Power Development Authority has decided to bill the arrears resulting from the implementation of its new power tariffs in five monthly instalments.
The decision was taken here on Thursday after a barrage of complaints following the delivery of bills for the month of January according to the new power tariffs. The tariff increases were allowed by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority in August and November, 2001. In some cases the arrears rain into millions of rupees.
The Wapda authorities have decided to recover the amount, appearing in “bill adjustment” column, in five instalments. The instalments will be free of late payment surcharge and interest.
Power bills for February will be issued in accordance with the decision. The consumers, who have already been issued the bills, can get the facility by approaching the Wapda revenue office concerned.
The facility will not be available for any amount of adjustment becoming due on the account of reasons other than the tariff revision.
