KARACHI, Nov 12: At least 56 incidents of robberies and theft were reported to the police in various localities on Saturday. Police said that bandits held 20 different people at gunpoint and snatched their cellphones. One of them, Sohail was beaten severely by bandits when he put up resistance in Pakistan Bazaar police limits. Twenty four other cellphones were stolen, the police said.
A total of 13 vehicles were taken away in different parts of the city on Saturday.
A car was snatched at gunpoint and two others were stolen by the bandits while three motorbikes were taken away at gunpoint and seven others were stolen.
In Landhi, some bandits broke into the house of Abdul Wahid. They held the inmates hostage at gunpoint, collected cash, jewellery and valuables and fled with the loot.
In Quaidabad, four robbers stormed into the house of Abdul Hameed, made the family hostage at gunpoint, amassed cash, jewellery, and valuables, and escaped.
SHOT DEAD: A young man was shot dead in Shah Faisal Colony in the morning.
Police said that the young man stayed overnight at the residence of his aunt. As he came out of the residence in the morning, he was shot dead by unidentified armed men.
Later, the body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where his identity was established as Yaqoob Ali, 22.
The deceased’s brother, Yasir, got a murder case registered with the police station concerned stating that his brother Yaqoob, stayed at his aunt’s residence in Shah Faisal Colony along with his two friends. His friends had gone missing since the attack on Yaqoob.
Police have started search for the friends of the deceased besides investigating other aspects of the murder.
In PECHS, a watchman was shot dead by a security guard in Ferozabad police jurisdiction.
The watchman was later identified as Habibullah, 28. Police arrested Iqbal Sultan, the security guard of a private company, deputed at a union’s club. Iqbal had earlier told the police that Habib snatched his rifle and shot himself to death but later he retracted his statement and said that he had killed Habibullah when the latter tried to snatch his rifle.
Police said that the motive of the killing was still unclear. “We have collected all available evidence and trying to collect all circumstantial evidence to ascertain the motive of the killing,” a police officer said.
In Gadap, a man was found dead beside a farmhouse off Super Highway.
Police said that Abdul Ghani, 35, was found dead near the farmhouse. They said that no apparent mark of injury was found on the body. His body was taken to the hospital for autopsy. The postmortem examination report was reserved till the receipt of histopathological examination and chemical test.
