LOWER DIR: Workers of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company observed a complete pen-down strike and staged a rally in Timergara area here on Monday protesting the ‘failure’ of their organisation to address their issues.

The participants led by their leader Hazrat Faqir also shouted slogans against the government and Pesco.

Nasrullah, Khadim Hussain and Fazal Kabir complained that the Pesco had withdrawn the free electricity facility from workers in an unfair move.

They also resented shortage of staff and demanded immediate recruitment.

Meanwhile, speakers in a function here on Monday praised the teachers for playing a vital role for the society’s development and urged them to focus their attention on building the character of students for their future.

The event was held in the Government High School Shamshi Khan Talash here to give a farewell to retiring principal Aftab Alam Khan.

School Officers’ Association provincial president Riaz Bahar presided over the event, where former director of the Provincial Institute for Teachers’ Education Hakimullah was the chief guest.

Besides school heads, teachers and students, people from different walks of life also showed up in large numbers.

The speakers praised Aftab Alam Khan for his commitment to the cause of education.
