KARACHI: Amid tight security in the city, Chehlum was observed peacefully on Tuesday to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Husain and his companions.

The main procession started from Nishtar Park after a majlis was held. Mourners offered Zohrain prayers at M.A. Jinnah Road near Imambargah Ali Raza and later the procession culminated at Husainian Iranian Kharadar after passing through its traditional routes.

DIG-South Javed Akbar Riaz claimed that “excellent” security arrangements were made for the main procession in the East as well as South zones.

“All police units, including the bomb disposal squad, traffic and local police along with Rangers took foolproof security arrangements .

“We are grateful to all religious and political leaders for their excellent support in creating a harmonious atmosphere for the Chehlum procession, which greatly facilitated our security measures,” he added.
