THE plight of sugarcane growers unfortunately remains hidden from the public’s eye. Those struggling to get their payments from a mill in Jhang for the sugarcane supplied in December last year are losing hope fast.
I am a small farmer of Chak 232 JB Jhang. I supplied three units of sugarcane to the said mill on the promise that payment would be made within a week, but I am still struggling to get my money.
When I could not get my payment despite paying several visits to the offices, I approached the office of the local assistant commissioner, but failed to get justice.
Eventually, I lodged a complaint with the Citizen’s Portal (Code: PU080721-88683489) and with the Punjab chief minister’s complaint cell (No: cmo399263) on July 8.
Months have passed, but things have not moved an inch. The tall claims by the cane commissioner and the chief minister are nothing but media campaigns. I am a living example of how farmers fail to get justice.
Small farmers are suffering at the hands of mill managements while those who are at the helm of affairs continue to look the other way.
