PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Goods Transport Federation has decided to observe a strike and block GT and Ring roads on Sept 16 (Thursday) in protest against excessive penalties, commonly known as challans, imposed on transporters by the traffic police.

Addressing a press conference here, the federation’s office-bearers also demanded of Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and IGP Moazzam Ja Ansari to take notice of the traffic police’s ‘highhandedness’.

They alleged that SSP traffic city had refused to hold a meeting with a transporters’ delegation to apprise him about their problems.

The said complaints were also lodged with the provincial transport department, but to no avail.
