Malik Atif slams hat trick

LAHORE, Jan 23: Malik Atif Yar Tiwana scored four goals, including a hat-trick, which enabled Al-Baraka Islamic Bank to win 6—2 1/2 over Mayfair in the January Cup polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club, Wednesday.

Four chukkers of an eight-chukker match were played in which Diamond Paints took an 8-7 lead over Remounts Orange. The remaining four chukkers will be played on Friday.

Mayfair had a 1 1/2 goal handicap handicap and scored the only goal through Araya on a 30 yards penalty-hit during third chukker.

Atif opened scoring for Al-Baraka Bank by putting in a field goal of first chukker. Mayfair led 1 1/2—1 at end of the first chukker. There was no scoring in second chukker.

Taimur Mawaz Khan “Tony” scored a field goal at start of third chukker for Al-Baraka Bank. Faaiz Rahim Khan also scored a field goal for the bank. Thereafter Araya scored Mayfair’s only goal. At the conclusion of third chukker, Al-Baraka Bank led 3—2 1/2.

Atif scored all three goals of fourth chukker to complete his hat-trick and also give Al-Baraka Bank a convincing win.

In four chukkers of second match of the tournament, Diamond Paints had advantage of four goals on handicap and scored two goals, each through Mir Shoaib Ahmad and Hamid Ali to increase tally of goals to eight.

Mazzzini scored four goals, including a hat-trick for Remounts Orange. But its tally of goals remained seven as Sufi Muhammad amir scored two goals and Ahmad Khan one goal.
