QUETTA / CHAGHAI: Independence Day was celebrated throughout Balochistan on Saturday with national zeal and traditional fervour.

Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan Alyani hoisted the national flag at a ceremony at the lawns of the Balochistan Assembly.

Balochistan Assembly Speaker Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo, provincial ministers, MPAs, the chief secretary and senior civil and ministry officials also attended the ceremony.

Balochistan Governor Syed Zahoor Ahemd Agha hoisted the national flag at another ceremony held at Governor House.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Alyani said that youths were the future of Pakistan so “we need to make our future generations aware of the historic independence movement of Pakistan and about the goals of the country”.

Independence Day was also observed in Dera Murad Jamali.

Commissioner of Nasirabad division Dr Saeed Ahemd Umrani, Deputy Inspector General of Police Pervez Ahmed Chandio and Deputy Commissioner Azhar Shahzad hoisted the national flag at a ceremony held at the Commissioner House.

A large numbers of tribal elders and other people were present on the occasion.

The flag-hoisting ceremonies were also held in Khuzdar, Kalat, Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur, Pishin, Loralai, Zhob, Lasbela and Sibi.

The flag-hoisting ceremonies, sports events, speech competitions, sapling plantation and other activities were held followed by rallies in many parts of Chagai, Kharan, Nushki and Washuk districts of Rakhshan division.

After hoisting the national flag with a guard of honour by police held at Government Boys High School and a speech competition, Chagai Deputy Commissioner Agha Sher Zaman, along with district police officer Anwar Badini and Dalbandin Assistant Commissioner Javed Dhoki led a rally in Dalbandin.

A large number of students holding national flags and changing slogans took part in the rally.

In Nushki and Washuk, Deputy Commissioner Jameel Ahmed Rind and Shafqat Anwar Shahwani respectively led the rallies.
