KARACHI, Nov 1: The Chief Secretary, Fazalur Rehman, has, in his directions to concerned departments and organisations, stressed effective maintenance of water, power and sewerage systems on Eidul Fitr.

The chief secretary also issued directives for maintaining a balance in the prices of essential items and said an appropriate line of action should be adopted to redress public complaints on account of profiteering, hoarding and supply of substandard items.

He said action should be taken against personnel involved in illegal activities besides those indulging in creating price hikes and carrying out adulteration.

Taking notice of public complaints received in his office, he directed the KWSB and KESC to initiate measures to ensure availability of drinking water and uninterrupted power supply during Eid days.

He said that in the case of water shortage, demand should be met through tankers, and in the case of power failure, the water supply system be kept operative through standby generators.—APP
